Personal PC training is intended for someone who:
- wants to learn how to use a PC.
- is currently unemployed and recognizes that computer skills are required in order to enter today’s job market.
- wants to change jobs in order to obtain a higher paying job.
- is considering changing careers.
- wants to increase the scope of computer knowledge in order to do personal tasks such as writing letters and
reports, creating and monitoring budgets, managing investments, or saving and sharing photos.
- wants to keep in touch with the kids and grand
kids in a way that is familiar to them.
There are many sources of training, and selecting the correct source can be as perplexing as the PC issues themselves.
Typically classroom instruction is the most economical but it comes with some drawbacks whereas personal instruction
has many more advantages:
Training is focused on your individual needs. For example,
are you looking for a job that requires training in a special program
such as Microsoft™ Excel? Do you just want to do a better job in managing
your budget or investments? Or, do you want to edit photos you’ve
taken, store them safely, and share them with friends and family?
You use your computer. Because of minor differences in PCs that are the result of local settings, virtually every
home PC looks different from other PCs. Many users who are new to PCs get frustrated because different PCs frequently
look different. Things that worked well on one machine don’t work on another machine.
You use only the programs you choose to use. And, you can proceed
at your own pace. Your questions will be answered to your satisfaction,
and you will get immediate feedback on your progress.
Personal PC training can be done in the privacy of your home or office. You will never be embarrassed with questions
or mistakes.
Whatever work you do on your PC, the documents, spreadsheets, or photos will stay on your PC. Because you will
do your work on your own PC, you will not have to move it from one PC to another PC.
Once you decide what you are planning to do with your PC, you will
want training only in topics that will contribute to your goal. In
personal training sessions, only information you consider relevant
to your needs will be presented. So, for example,
if you want to learn how to write letters and
create lists, you may need to learn only a limited amount of the many
functions available in word processing programs. As you become more
comfortable with the PC, you will likely want to learn more about
what you can do with it.
